In 2012, when we first started brewing Whetstone Beers, we loaded our entire team onto a bus and took them on a day long brewery field trip (we still do several staff outings each year and we’re hiring!) . After several stops on the brewery bus, during the long journey home from Hill Farmstead, someone on the bus jovially exclaimed “we’re all a bunch of whetstoners”! Well, the name stuck and we introduced our very first flagship year round beer as Whetstoner.

Whetstoner was a hit at just 4.5% alc/vol but our regulars wanted more! They asked for a more traditional, bigger, New England style IPA. Naturally, Big ‘Stoner was the perfect name for this “big” version of our Whetstoner.

From there, we’ve expanded the ‘Stoner series to include the most popular of our experimental IPAs. Today you can find them in fine retail outlets, restaurants and bars around New England and of course, at our own Whetstone Station.
